Pineapples and New in the Shop

We are proud to show you a Just Nan exclusive Charm Garden Pin made for In Stitches!

Here at In Stitches, we are all about the pineapple, which is a sign of hospitality. If you have visited us, you may have noticed our carved pineapple sign or our pineapple garden flag.

We have lots of pineapple charts and stitched models, including this biscornu from Jeannette Douglas Designs.

And this "Pineapple Welcome" banner from Fanci That.

We are loving the new Sublime yarn book and yarns. This sweater is knit in Bamboo and Pearls DK yarn. I can't begin to tell you how deliciously soft and squooshy and yet smooth this yarn is--and each stitch shows a perfect definition.

From the same book, this sweater is knit from Sublime Tussah Silk DK.

New model in the shop: "Grace Risk 1848" by Samplers Revisited.

Here it is in close-up. Notice the lovely satin stitching on the tiny butterflies and the over-one purple bunny!

Some of you who have shopped here in person or who call in an order have met Patricia Eaton, the manager of In Stitches. She is very Scottish and very talented with a needle. Here are two small projects she has completed from Ewe & Eye & Friends: "Thistle House" and

"Petite Sampler."

We will be open this Sunday, May 1, from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Please call us if you have questions or would like to place an order, at 703-360-4600. We are open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern, and the first Sunday of each month from 12:30 - 4:30.

Happy stitching!

April in Paris

Ellen, the owner of In Stitches, and her husband are jetting off to Paris this evening. For those of us who can't go (although we did offer to carry her luggage), we will console ourselves with some of the lovely French--or French-themed wares in the shop. Cue the Parisian Accordian music!

We have lots of needle-minders in the shop, including this adorable Eiffel Tower from Kelmscott.

We have drawers full of Au Ver A Soie.

And this lovely chart from Marie Suarez--"Histoire d'Amour."

A little Paris stocking canvas to stitch in needlepoint. We have lots of these for different places around the world. If you're a world traveler, commemorate your visits (or even the places you'd like to go someday) with a series of these little stockings. Note: We can send them out to a finishing service for you, if you prefer to stitch but not finish.

By Dames of the Needle, the "Shaker Box French Style."

We carry books! Here we have "Fleurs et Alphabets Fleuris," and the "Cross Stitch Bible"--both volumes of it!

A framed-in-the-shop "Alphabetissimo" by Papillon Creations.

"Paradis Perdu" by A Mon Ami Pierre:

Also by A Mon Ami Pierre, "Hornbook Alphabet Noir"

We have several beautiful charts by Relets de Soie--this is "Anne Weaver 1852."

Have fun, Ellen! Bon voyage!

New and Notable in the Shop

It's almost Easter, and we have lots of fun and colorful spring and Easter canvases, charts and ornaments throughout the store. First is our little tree displaying little spring projects from Cross Eyed Cricket: "Soft Boiled Eggs" (the egg-shaped ones) and "Rabbits Garden" (the carrot-shaped ornies).

Here's the "Hippity Hop" needlepoint canvas, new from the Dallas market. You could stitch Hippity Hop lickety split.

Our newest shop model is the pretty (and quick!) sewing bag by Blackbird Designs--"Flowers of the Field."

Some nifty pins for one of the many pin cushions that you can stitch--or that can bedeck an old-fashioned tomato pin cushion.

Not new, but worth a second look: "Spring Garden Sampler" by The Victoria Sampler.

We have received some new charts from the Scarlet Letter. This is "Dorothy Walpole." Dorothy is a band sampler with an especially nice bargello band, which measures 9x24" on 40 count. Of course, you can stitch it on any count you want (or any count you can comfortably see!) Glenna is debating stitching it on 40 count Picture This Plus in Legacy or on 36 count Lakeside Linen in Bisque. It is charted for either AVAS silk or DMC.

Next from the Scarlet Letter is "Coraggio," which many of you will remember seeing at the Woodlawn Needlework Show, stitched impeccably by John K. Although it's difficult to tell from the photo here, the blue zig-zag line just sizzles on the completed project.

This is Scarlet Letter's "Mary Williams 1804" with its many alphabets.

Here's a closer look (photo borrowed from the Scarlet Letter):

The newest Sampler & Antique Needlework magazine is here. Aside from the wonderful cover design ("1864 EF Sampler" charted for NPI or DMC) is a gorgeous blue Quaker motif sampler from Praiseworthy Stitches and other lovely samplers to stitch or just read about.

If you have questions or would like to order, please call as at 703-360-4600. We are open from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. (Eastern) Monday through Saturday, and from 12:30-4:30 on the first Sunday of each month.

Happy Stitching!

New and Cool in the Shop

Good nearly-Friday morning! Hopefully you have some great stitching planned for this weekend.

There are some delightful new things in the shop: Glasses cases to needlepoint:

New needlepoint canvases from the Dallas show. I love this--the flowers, the boat, the dog looking at the boat (which I believe holds a dog), the scattered croquet mallets and balls. Very summery.

Just Nan's "Painted Turtle Pocket." Also the painted turtle winder and the turtle pin. The enamel work is so lovely and collectible. I'd love to have a bunch of Just Nan pins in a special pin cushion.

And the most adorable tape measures from Lantern Moon: a crocheted leaf with lady bugs, and a bumblebee.

Colors of Lakeside in 40 count (or lower), from the left: Tarnished Silver, Sea Storm and Tundra.

Not brand new, but worth a second look: Samplers Remembered's "French Heart Alphabet."

Heaven and Earth Designs' "Sailing Through Life."

Chessie & Me's "Summer Alphabet Sampler."

The Sampler Company's "Husbandry in Honor."

"Sailor Collar," a classic kit by Shepherd's Bush. I've been itching to buy it as a companion for Shepherd's Bush "Cranberry Pinafore."

Please give us a call with questions or to order at 703-360-4600. We are open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Eastern, and the first Sunday of the month from 12:30-4:30.

Happy Stitching!

Quakers!

We have lots of Quaker designs of all kinds in the shop; here are just a few:

A quaker to orient you--Rosewood Manor's Quaker Compass:

A tiny quaker--The Sampler House's "Wrought in Miniature Quaker Sampler."

A larger quaker for spring--Rosewood Manor's "Spring Quaker." This is charted for Valdani threads on Picture This Plus (in Valor) 28 count. Let us help you kit it up, or we can help with substitutions.

A blue quaker--The Sweetheart Tree's "Floral Quaker."

Or one in red. This is an amazing new chart in our store by A Mon Ami Pierre. It's designed to be a table runner (eek! Gravy!), but you could frame it. Wonderful, fun motifs and note the little bit of green in the lower right-hand corner.

By Primitive Traditions, a "Quaker Basket." Yes, we can get the basket for you!

And an elaborately kitted up, most luxurious quaker by Charland Designs, called "Harvest of Friendship Necessaire." The kit includes silks, linen, fabric, ribbon, mother of pearl hearts and charm.

Please call us if you have questions or would like to order. Our phone number is 703-360-4600, and we are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Eastern) Monday-Saturday, and from 12:30-4:30 on the first Sunday of each month.

Happy Stitching!

Stitch Night and What's New in the Shop

In Stitches' stitch nights are the first and third Wednesdays of the month, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Everyone has fun stitching and doing show and tell and nibbling and talking. In fact, we would have had more photos of the participants' work if a certain photographer hadn't been wolfing down the mini piggies (tiny pigs in blankets) and apple pie and then working on her own new start!

Here are a few pics for your enjoyment: Jan's "Peppermint Twist" by Blue Ribbon Designs.

Connie's knitting a baby blanket--and thank you for the piggies!

Sherry's project--"Needle and Thread," by Little House Needleworks:

Something new in the shop: "Roses de Mai" by Reflets de Soie:

Which Glenna started last night (40 count Lakeside vintage Magnolia and AVAS fibers):

We all enjoyed seeing the many new needlepoint canvases that Ellen brought back from Dallas. Here are just two of the many super cute Easter canvases with a few threads pulled just as a suggestion:

A shop model of "Blue Mountain Bunny" by Sweetheart Tree.

The "Carrot Patch" pin cushion kit by Just Another Button Company:

Here's a shot of the kit's contents:

"Easter Greetings" Takealongs kit by Trilogy:

"My Family Tree" by Willow Hill Samplings.

Please join us on Stitch Night for fun and stitching! Don't feel bashful--the group is very friendly and inclusive, and we can guarantee lots of interesting conversations and some great stitching.

If you have questions or would like to order something, please call us at 703-360-4600. Our shop hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and we're open the first Sunday of every month from 12:30 to 4:30 (EST--we're in Alexandria, VA).

Happy stitching!
